Electric Car Charging Installation FAQ’s

The EV chargers that we install work by providing Fast EV Charging capability to your home or office, which is up to 4 times quicker than the output from your standard plug sockets. The EV chargers also provide you with the essential overload and fault current protection built-in, which your standard plug sockets do not provide.
As an approved installer for 5 of the biggest manufacturers we don’t have a bias. We believe all of the brands we offer have the same great features (Smart functionality, App control & no need to install an earth rod), so it’s mostly down to budget, personal preference and how the charger looks on the exterior of your house or commercial premises.
This is how you connect to the charger. Untethered means the charger comes with a type 2 socket and a separate cable is used to connect the car to the charger, the cable is generally stored in the boot when not in use. Tethered means the charging cable is permanently connected to the charger & is generally wrapped around the unit when not in use.

This comes down to your situation but here are a few points to consider

Tethered is less likely to have the cable stolen

Do you need the cable for use elsewhere?

The tethered cable can look messy not in use

Type 1 sockets can be used more easily with untethered

The car charger needs to be installed on a solid fixed wall or post but there are other elements. It is important to consider the length of cable that comes with tethered chargers as it can’t be changed. Generally we offer 5m, 7.5m, 8.6m or 10m. Extension cables only come up to a maximum of 10m long. We always suggest installing the car charger in-between spaces if you have multiple driveway spaces for example and allow enough cable on the charger so the car can be parked forwards or backwards in the space.
Yes, we can remove the charger and install a junction box in it’s place to keep the wiring safe. We charge £85+VAT for this service. We would then need to book at site visit at your new property to provide a quote for re-installing the EV charging point.
Yes, we can also supply 22kw EV chargers however a full site visit would need to be carried out for us to give you a quote. Please give our office a call on 01252 265094 to arrange.
